Scattered Purgatory

Founded in 2013, Scattered Purgatory is one of Taiwan’s leading experimental bands, known for blending traditional Taiwanese music with psychedelic and avant-garde sounds. Their debut album, The Lost Ethnography of the Miscanthus Ocean (2014, on Guruguru Brain), is recognized as a landmark in Asian psychedelic music, marking the band’s distinct style early on.
From 2015 to 2019, the band performed extensively across Europe and North America, including notable appearances at Canada’s New Forms Festival and the Netherlands’ Le Guess Who, where they received critical acclaim alongside internationally renowned artists.
In response to the global pandemic, Scattered Purgatory adapted by participating in virtual music festivals such as the UK’s NTS Radio and Poland’s Unsound, maintaining global fan engagement through digital performances.
In 2024, the band began work on a new album and performed at two of Taiwan’s biggest music events —StreetVoice The Next Big Thing and the Megaport Festival —and at SXSW Sydney in October. In 2025, Scattered Purgatory released a collaboration single, “Diaspora” with Dis Fig as the trailer to their new album.

In January of 2026, the band will release their comeback album “Post Purgatory”. Shifting from Earth-inspired, mountain-scale walls of sound to a chiseled digital lucidity—a record that coolly mirrors a dystopian social climate where downtempo beats collide with doom metal riffs, contemporary sound design and granular sampling summon a surreal, dark tropical atmosphere.
